I’m the oldest of 3 kids so I laid down my real estate boss vibe from an early age. I bit my brother (it was the 80’s and I was 2 and I don’t recommend that as a leadership strategy, lol). I spoke for my sister. On the first day of Kindergarten I encouraged my mom to leave and go home and to not cry because I was fine. I threw down a winning speech about my cat, Rambo, in grade 1 and represented the primaries. I lead the neighbourhood kid collective in the digging of the world’s largest hole. When I got pushed, I pushed back. I ran for the grade 4 track team in grade 2. I came last but kept going. I babysat my siblings before it was legally really allowed. I stomped down my foot when my parents said I couldn’t go to the high school dance. And I held the president of student council title with pride. Don’t quite take this for a brag. My high school classmates can all vouch for me being a tremendous nerd. So can the early university ones.
Why do you care that I’ve got real estate “boss” in my veins? Because the very definition of a good salesperson is one who takes control and knows how to get results quickly and efficiently. Some might say otherwise, but the real truth is that good salespeople and bosses are born, not taught. It’s IN their blood. (Yet kudos to those who have defied those laws of nature vs nurture).
Let’s talk about bosses, shall we? The reason why we should talk about bosses is simple: if your Toronto real estate agent isn’t a boss, thank me now, but that signals the time is NOW to move along and find one that is. If you – pardon the word, a “mortal” – can walk all over your Toronto real estate agent on the topic of…(you guessed it, Toronto Real Estate), imagine how they’ll represent you if put in front of a real salesperson/boss. Ouch.
boss noun (1) \ ˈbäs, ˈbȯs\ = a person who exercises control or authority
What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think, “BOSS”?? For some it’s a negative connotation, but for others, it’s a pleasant one. Just like in the corporate world, the Toronto real estate world is comprised of good bosses and bad bosses. A good boss communicates a clear vision, knows how to execute that vision, is decisive, is available, sets high standards and expects results, shares relevant information, approaches the good and bad with positivity, and always tells the truth. A bad boss on the other hand, is self-centered, bullying, always right, unavailable, not a good listener, often rude, even more often crappy at their job, and may very well do an awesome job of covering up their faults.
When faced with the choice of hiring a Toronto real estate agent to sell your home, knowing there are good boss type Realtors, bad boss type Realtors and non-boss types that really should go find another career, I want you to know what to look for:
Your Realtor/Real Estate Boss Should Evoke The Following Characteristics:
—-
Honesty –
(See how they answer the question: “what do you think my home is worth?” If they give you the number you want to hear, or a mind-blowing figure that give you tingles (but your gut says no way) but can’t undoubtedly show how they can and will make that happen, pause and reflect. Are they being honest?)
Communication –
(The best real estate agents will communicate fluidly with you. They will respond timely to your calls and emails, and communicate how they’ll sell your property in an organized form. Observe carefully.)
Trust –
(You can trust a good boss almost immediately. If they feel slick and slimy, it’s quite possible they are).
Decisiveness –
(Pro tip – experiment by seeing whether or not they will negotiate on their commission and services. Do they appear rattled and caught off course upon being asked? Beware of the salesperson who can be easily negotiated down by the homeowner. Just imagine what they’d do if put in front of a real salesperson).
A Clear Vision –
(An excellent salesperson boss knows exactly how they are going to sell your home and exactly how it will get done from start to finish)
Experience –
(It’s rare that a great boss didn’t put in some elbow grease before climbing to the top. The lessons you learn to get to the level of success are what make you a boss. Have they sold a lot of homes? Have they sold a home like yours?)
High Standards –
(A great Realtor wants to exceed your expectations of them, point blank)
